RTV615 is a two-component clear RTV silicone which cures at room temperature to form a high-strength silicone rubber. Users can speed up cure time by heating the mixture and curing within a few hours. This quick cure silicone comes with curing agent in matched kits, designed for use with a convenient 10:1 ratio by weight.
The cured silicone is optically clear and does not yellow if exposed to outdoor conditions. This property makes RTV615 ideal for outdoor lighting protection such as scoreboards, signage or street lighting. The clarity of the cured silicone does not impede light transmission and adds protection against common outside hazards.
A fast-cure RTV silicone, RTV615 is a colorless and pourable liquid with a mixed viscosity of 4000 cps. The RTV615 is optically clear and protects electronic parts against shock, vibration, moisture, ozone and dust. The cured compound is soft and does not stress parts between temperature cycling. RTV615 is ideal for encapsulating delicate parts, especially when the operate between temperature extremes.
The optical clarity of this clear silicone rubber compound allows for visual evaluation in various applications. such as potting solar cells for maximum light transmission, or potting electronic assemblies where component identification is necessary or desirable. It also makes RTV615 a great silicone casting resin or fixing the silicone PDMS layer in trays for 3D VAT printing.
RTV615 requires a primer to adhere to substrates. We recommend the SS4120 since this compound applies clear and will not hinder overall clarity. The cured silicone is FDA-approved for use in food contact applications. The compound removes easily if rework is needed using a simple cutting tool like a knife or boxcutter.
We also carry the RTV12 which is a clear sealant with a gel consistency. For applications with high operating temperatures, consider RTV60 or RTV88. Our blue and white silicones -RTV630 and RTV11 - are ideal choices for mold making.
In harsh climates, RTV615 may not be the best material as it does not hold up well to chemicals like oil and other solvents. These liquids cause the rubber to swell and not adhere well to the substrate. Also, soft materials like RTV615 may not be best to protect components against hard impacts. Instead, consider hard materials like our 832WC.
