832FX is a black, 2-part, flexible epoxy potting compound. Once cured, the epoxy offers extreme environmental and physical protection for printed circuit boards and electronics. The epoxy is a dark black finish that makes it quite tough for others to steal a circuit design. The 832FX is ideal for potting more delicate parts.
The key features of the 832FX are its low viscosity and softer finish. In climates where the temperatures can quickly change, softer compounds like the 832FX are more ideal. The flexible epoxy resin does not exert as much stress on potted parts during expansion and contraction. Projects where parts are thermal cycled between temperatures may benefit from softer compounds like 832FX.
Fully cured epoxy typically is quite rigid, making it an ideal plastic to cover parts for protection. The rigid structure deflects physical stress so they do not damage the parts. Sometimes, this stiffness is not ideal since it can be the source of stress when the part cycles between temperatures. As an example, consider the temperatures between a plane at altitude compared with the plane parked on a runway.
The design of this product aims limit the physical stress on components. 832FX performs well in low temperature climates, as well as applications that involve temperature cycling or rapid temperature changes. It provides the functionality of silicone, but with the durability and economy of epoxy.
The softer, more flexible epoxy resin has assets compared to other elastic parts like silicone or urethanes. Compared to silicone, epoxy is tougher and has much better resistance to chemicals. Likewise, epoxy has a higher working temperature range than does urethane, opening it up to more applications. Epoxy also has superb adhesion when compared to other plastics.
The 832FX has a longer cure time than many harder systems, exceeding the standard 24 hours at room temperature. We therefore suggest using heat to cure the system since this decreases the cure time by quite a lot.
Epoxy also has better adhesion to most substrates compared to other resin systems. The 832FX bonds well to plastics, metal, wood, ceramics and glass surfaces. Users can rest assured the epoxy will not peel off, even for parts in harsh climates. The softer finish means potted parts feel more energy from impacts compared to rigid systems.
The epoxy contains no filler, optimizing not just the flow but also insulation properties. The cured plastic has a low dielectric constant meaning it does not interfere with incoming signals. This feature makes the 832FX ideal for potting and bonding electronics in telecom and other communication devices.
The cured epoxy system absorbs almost no water, making it a good choice for underwater and humid climates. It holds up well to not only water but also salt water making it suitable for marine applications.
832FX can easily enter small gaps and cavities since it is such a thin compound. The epoxy resin provides excellent insulation and protects components from static discharge. The epoxy cures to a semi-soft finish with good chemical resistance. These features protect against vibration, abrasion, thermal shock, humidity, salt water, fungus, and many harsh chemicals.
832FX is our most flexible epoxy compound with a handy 1:1 volume mix ratio. The even amounts of resin and hardener make it compatible with most dispensing equipment. 832FX cures at room temperature or elevated temperatures. After mixing, the epoxy has a long working time with minimal exotherm, ideal for high volume processing.
For better protection from vibrations and impacts, consider a 2-part black rigid epoxy like our 832B or 832HD. For 2-part clear rigid epoxies try 832C or 832WC. We also offer 2-part thermal epoxy and high temperature epoxy potting compounds.
Our 2-part flame-retardant epoxy potting compounds are 834B, 834HTC, 834BLV and 834FX. Our 9510 is a 1-part epoxy that offers real convenience. We also offer polyurethane and silicone potting compounds.
