This 2-part epoxy paint shields electronic equipment from electromagnetic waves. The cured paint is smooth, durable and resists marring. Nickel is an ideal material for shielding radio frequency (RF) since it can absorb these signals. This RF shielding coating resists chemicals and adheres to metal, glass and most plastics.
The metal coating blocks electromagnetic interference, ensuring continued use of electrical devices. The nickel filler blocks not only high frequency electromagnetic waves but also radio waves. This feature provides great electromagnetic shielding across a wide spectrum of wavelengths. The durability of the epoxy binder coupled with nickel filler makes this coating a highly effective shielding material.
Nickel epoxy paint is ideal when users need protection from both electric fields and magnetic shielding. The paint is an easy way to create a Faraday cage around electronic devices for full protection. The paint conforms to the contours of complex shapes, a better option than foils or tapes which can tear and leave gaps.
Compared with other fillers, nickel blocks low frequency magnetic fields. Magnetic interference can occur from exposure to power lines, AC/DC motors, transformers and magnets. The nickel flake protects devices by absorbing magnetic field lines, which fillers like silver and copper can't.
Nickel provides a good balance between cost and performance. The flake has a flat shape which improves the surface coverage of the coating. Good surface coverage lowers overall costs by reducing the coating thickness. Conductive paint provides not only cost savings compared to solid materials but also helps lightweight devices.
The epoxy binder sticks to many surfaces, so it can protect shielding enclosures, metals and concrete surfaces. Aside from protecting devices, the epoxy paint is ideal for underground, porous structures. Specifically, it is great for concrete flooring or walls. The cured paint is tough and will not chip or crack, preventing gaps in the shield which can cause signals to leak.
Compared to other binders like acrylics and some urethanes, epoxy offers enhanced chemical resistance. This feature makes epoxy ideal in rugged climates rich in chemical solvents or gas where other polymers fail. Specifically, epoxy is ideal in automotive applications where there may be immersion with oils, gas and coolants. It holds up well in corrosive climates while providing good shielding effectiveness across a range of frequencies.
The epoxy paint is resilient when subjected to harsh thermal-cycling conditions. It has good flexibility at low temperatures and does not easily crack or lose conductivity. This stability makes the paint an ideal choice for aerospace where temperatures can cycle between heat and extreme cold.
This paint will protect your device for a long time with little performance loss. In mild climates, it is fair to suspect that epoxy paint can last many years. The coating is prone to degrade with UV exposure or environments rich in salt or moisture. It may be necessary to add a protective topcoat in harsh environments to ensure continued performance.
We also offer nickel paint as a 1-part water-based or acrylic-based system. The acrylic version includes an aerosol package for an easy user experience. We carry other epoxy paints like a highly conductive silver-coated copper for broad band electromagnetic radiation. When in need of high-level protection, we have silver-filled systems across all polymer types.
