8331D – Silver Conductive Epoxy Adhesive

8331D is a 2-part electrically conductive epoxy that is an improved version of our silver-filled epoxy, 8331. The glue is smooth, non-sag, thixotropic, and bonds well to a wide variety of substrates. This conductive epoxy resin finds use as a cold solder for mounting heat sensitive components.

Electrically conductive epoxy resin such as the 8331D is useful for making repairs on conductive traces. The cured epoxy is durable and withstands harsh climates making it ideal for repairing worn copper traces. The glue is highly conductive to carry current. The epoxy bonds well to many surfaces including metal, wood, glass and most plastics.

This electrically conductive silver epoxy allows for quick, cold-soldering repairs. One of its prime uses is as a solder replacement for bonding heat-sensitive electronics. Also, the glue is ideal when soldering is not an option, such as bonding to glass, soft metals, or plastics. Once cured, the adhesive provides EMI/RFI shielding and effectively fills seams between metal plates.

The epoxy resin cures to a hard, tough finish, forming strong bonds between substrates. Once cured, the epoxy works within a robust temperature range making it suitable for many applications. Beyond simple bonding and sealing applications though, this adhesive is highly conductive and carries charge between surfaces.

This DIY electrical epoxy is both thrifty and handy. The one to one mix ratio simplifies use, preventing under-curing. The adhesive cures at room temperature, though heat from convection oven or IR speeds up cure. The mix of epoxy resin and silver powder render a product that balances electrical, thermal and mechanical properties.

Aside from bonding electronic components, the adhesive provides many other features not found in most glues. Silver is good for conducting not only charge but also heat. While cold solder and trace repair are primary uses, the adhesive can also bond heatsinks for improved thermal management. When used this way, care must be taken to contain the adhesive and prevent shorts.

The silver filler also provides shielding against EMI/RFI. Though the thickness prevents application over large surfaces, the adhesive is great for making form-in-place gaskets. Conductive paint is ideal for covering surfaces for EMI, however, adhesive is great for applying into tight seams and gaps. The epoxy binder resists corrosion and attack from common chemicals, making it ideal in harsh climates.

For a higher fill that maxes conductivity, use 8330D. For a longer working time and low outgassing, use 8331S. For a 1-part option that's easy-to-use and dispenses well, consider the 9410. We also offer a full line of thermally conductive electrically insulating epoxy adhesives.
