Tip Tinner

MG Chemicals' Tip Tinner is a SAC305 powder mixed with oxide-reducing compounds that help extend the life of solder irons. This soldering iron tip tinner helps prevent the oxidation of solder iron tips, which sustains heat transfer so that the iron tip can continue to melt solder.

How often should I tin my solder iron?

The answer to this will vary greatly within users. On the conservative side, people will say tip tinner is simply for repair so if you don’t consistently take the temperature tip to very high temperatures, you don’t really need to use this. Others will consistently dip the iron in the tinner after soldering a handful of joints. Our advice is to use your discretion and tin the tip when you’re finished using the iron as this will leave a protective layer of tin over the iron and protect against any oxidation.
