Solder Mask

MG Chemicals’ solder mask provides a quick and easy way to mask off specific areas of circuit boards, thereby preventing unwanted material from getting into the wrong places. It is also referred to as solder resist because it forms a thin polymeric layer that prevents the formation of solder bridges between close solder pads on PCBs.

Whether you are applying conformal coating, potting material or solder flux, our solder mask protects vital areas of the circuit board from malfunction due to shorting and corrosion. This solder resist layer can be easily peeled off after application is completed.

How long after conformal coating my part should I remove the solder mask?
You should remove the solder mask quickly after coating before the coating has dried and solidified. Quick removal prevents any tearing along the edges of the coating that overlaps with any overspray that’s on the masking.

Does the solder mask shrink during cure?

Yes, quite a bit in fact so we suggest putting down a generous amount when applying the material. Shrinkage is due to the relatively high amount of volatile components in the masking.
